Middleborough Republican Town Committee Announces Second Annual Presidents Day Scholarship

The Middleborough Republican Town Committee (MRTC) will conduct its second annual $5,000 Scholarship Essay Contest, open to any secondary school student who is a Middleboro resident.

"The MRTC is proud to promote critical thinking and writing skills in our high school students, and looks forward to the opportunity to award a $5000 savings bond to another student this year," said a spokesperson. "Last year the MRTC received many wonderful essays and were able to present essayist James Anderson with the scholarship."

The scholarship is awarded directly to the student and can be used for any purpose.

The topic for this year's contest is "Why George Washington is still relevant today." Essays must be between 300-400 words in length and need to be received no later than Jan. 20, 2012. The winning essayist will present his or her essay at the Middleborough Republican Town Committee's second annual President's Day Scholarship Luncheon on Feb. 18, 2012.

Greater Attleboro/Taunton HOME Consortium

Please join us to discuss how the Greater Attleboro/Taunton HOME Consortium (GATHC) should spend federal funding that it receives as a participating jurisdiction under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME).

Taunton’s Office of Economic and Community Development (OECD), as the lead agency for the GATHC, will host these meetings and briefly explain the guidelines of the HOME program. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss ideas and proposals, and make suggestions on how these federal funds could most effectively be used to serve the housing needs of the region’s low and moderate income residents and neighborhoods. Applications for funding proposals will be made available at these meetings and through the OECD following the meetings.

Put down those presents and prepare to be entertained by the Pumpernickel Puppets and their version of the classic tale, Sir George and the Dragon.

Because of the expected high turnout for both the puppet show and the movie/craft program, tickets are needed for both events. Fire codes require us to limit the number of people in the room to 100.

Tickets will be available for pick-up at the children's library, starting Wednesday, Dec. 21. Tickets must be picked up in person, no phone reservations will be accepted. Families need to show up 15 minutes before the program to keep their seats.
