Teen Hunger Games Challenge

Teens in grades 6 and up are invited to participate in the Middleboro Public Library "Hunger Games Challenge." As tributes, you will form teams to compete in challenges that test your physical and intellectual prowess, as well as show off your Capitol style. We'll have food inspired by the book and prizes in honor of the upcoming movie release.

When and Where:

Thursday, April 5th from 4 PM to 6:30 PM
Town Hall Auditorium
REGISTRATION EVENT - Teens must register by calling the library or signing up at the library itself. Space is limited.

Training sessions include:

Archery prowess

Knot-tying skills
Poisonous plant knowledge
Creating muttations and mockingjay pins

Tribute Parade

Teams will select one member to dress up in the Tribute Parade. As stylists for the Capitol, tributes will use assorted materials to accessorize their Tribute in either the fabulous style of the Capitol or for survival in the ferocious Arena. The best-dressed Tributes team will claim more points towards winning the challenge.

Cornucopia Race and Elimination Round

Teams will compete in a relay race to grab survival items from the cornucopia. Tributes must be careful to choose items that will be most valuable for survival, as each item is worth points based on its usefulness in the Arena. The top two teams after the race will go head-to-head in the "Tracker Jacker Elimination Round." The team tagged with the least number of tracker jacker stings will be the winners of the Hunger Games. But they might not be the only ones heading home with a prize... All participants will have their names entered in the "Reaping Raffle." At the end of the program, Effie Trinket will pick two victors from the Tribute pool as lucky winners of The Hunger Games: Official Illustrated Movie Companion and the movie poster. Participants must be present to win raffle prizes.

A Starry Night at Soule Homestead

Saturday, March 24 – “A Starry Night” Star Gazing Presentation – 7:00 to 8:30pm

Longtime amateur astronomer Barry DeCristofano and his wife Carolyn, offer this family-fun activity to help you make sense out of the star patterns that light up the night! Make your own constellation map to take home. Explore the Zodiac and the motion of the Sun, Moon, and planets through our sky. Learn some lore and get a chance to ask your burning questions about astronomy. Weather permitting, we’ll go outside and observe through Barry’s telescope. If we’re lucky, we’ll get to glimpse Venus, Jupiter, Mars and a tiny sliver of the young Moon. Presentation fee: $5 members / $7 non-members.
