Calendar of Events, Adult Workshops & Volunteer Opportunities at The Soule Homestead

Saturday, JUN 2 - 10:00am to 12:00noon
Needle Felting is a quick and easy way to add embellishment to fabric or plain felted knitting projects. June Abramson will guide students through the steps to make a small pin cushion. Participants will choose from a selection of dyed wool to complete their project. All supplies are included and everyone will take home a new set of felting needles. The workshop fee is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Learn a new skill while volunteering at the Soule Homestead. A different seat weaving or basketry project is planned each month and Sue Anderson will lead this month's 'rib-construction' basketry project. The group will weave an assortment of baskets using a variety of natural materials. Participants will have the option to purchase their completed basket(s) or leave them at Soule to be offered for sale at our year-round events. Materials, tool, water and soaking bins will be provided. There is no cost to participate and weavers of all skill levels are welcome to attend

Individuals interested in fiber arts are welcome to attend this monthly meeting that is held at the Soule Homestead. Members work together on projects and participate in several events throughout the year. For more information contact Barbara Chadwick at 508-947-2679.

Maureen Cunningham and Louise Paolella will take the reins to give long-time volunteer and instructor Judy Rolt a much- needed break. Quilters of all skill levels can sign up to work on a variety of beginner or advanced projects. Bring your own sewing machine, fabric and supplies (an assortment of fabric is available for a small donation). A different project theme is planned each month. This month's project is: "Bargello Table Runner". Patterns, details and fabric requirements are available upon registration. The workshop fee is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Letterboxing - Create an artistic stamp, notebook and take an adventurous journey reading clues around our farm. All ages welcome. Pre-registration highly recommended.

ROTARY CRAFT FAIR (at Middleboro Town Hall)

Soule Homestead will be participating at the annual Middleboro Rotary Club's Craft Fair to be held at the Town Hall, 15 Nickerson Avenue. Please visit our booth for information about our children's programs, adult workshops, cultural events, and volunteer opportunities. A selection of traditional handcrafts and baskets made by volunteers will be displayed and available for purchase. Soule Homestead is pleased to host the 8th Annual Northeast Permaculture Convergence. Permaculture is a design system for creating sustainable human environments. It is about designing households and communities that are productive, sustaining and largely self-reliant and have minimal impact on the environment. This kid-friendly event is open to everyone, with workshops throughout and a chance to meet other permaculture designers and activists and those with a passing fancy to the art. All ages are welcome to join June Abramson to learn how to make your own wet-felted jewelry beads with dyed wool, soap and water. Participants should bring two 2-quart size containers and two hand-towels. Dyed wool will be provided. The workshop fee is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Children's Librarian Sought for Middleborough Public Library

The Middleborough Public Library seeks a qualified professional for the position of Children’s Librarian. This is a 30 hour position. Working under the direction of the Library Director as a member of the library management team, the Children’s Librarian oversees all services and programs serving children and works closely with the Assistant Director to develop programs for teens. Duties include: program development, storytelling, collection development, promotion of activities of the department, and supervision of volunteers assigned to Children’s Services. 

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science; at least two years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position. A working knowledge of social media is preferred. Must be creative, innovative and adaptable.

Salary: $21.10 to $30.55 in 9 steps as per contract between the Library Staff Association and the Town of Middleborough.

Roadway Construction Bids Sought

Sealed proposals from prequalified General Bidders submitted on a form furnished in the bid documents and clearly identified as a bid, endorsed with the name and address of the bidder and the project name, will be received at the Middleborough Town Hall, 10 Nickerson Avenue, Middleborough, MA 02346 no later than 2:00 PM on June 1, 2012 and will forthwith be publicly opened and read aloud.

Please be advised that General Bids will ONLY be accepted from contractors who are prequalified with MassDOT Division of Highways for no less than the bid price for this project. Plans and specifications will be available on or after May 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM, at Middleborough Town Hall, Office of the Town Manager at 10 Nickerson Avenue, Middleborough, MA 02346. Hard copies of the plans and specifications are available, upon request, for all qualified bidders for a refundable deposit of $100.00. All questions must be submitted by 2:00 PM on May 25, 2012 and may be submitted electronically to or via fax to 508-946-2320.
