Woodblock Printing Workshop

Woodblock printing is a simple technique for printing text, images or patterns on paper or textiles using blocks of carefully prepared wood and Stephanie Hannum will share her knowledge of the process and skills with others during two new introductory workshops for children at the Soule Homestead Education Center on two Saturdays, September 27th and November 29th, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Stephanie is a social worker who enjoys crafts and art as a hobby. She teaches basic woodblock printing techniques with an emphasis on low-cost methods and materials. "The class I hope to provide is a basic introductory to block printing for kids. The class will use 'found objects; such as paperclips and rubber bands to make a one of a kind print" she says, and adds "I think it can be a great stress reliever and a way to bring people together as well".

Edaville USA Pass Available

Thanks to the Friends of the Middleborough Public Library, the Library now has a set of passes to the Edaville USA Park. The park is currently open only on weekends, but will re-open weekdays during the holiday period. Many adults who grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts will have fond memories of riding the train at Edaville through the colorful cranberry bogs in the fall or through the Festival of Lights. They can now share this experience with their own children to the expanded park located in South Carver.

The Library's pass will admit 2 people free of charge. This will save a family $40 on their visit. Children under 2 are always free. Because of the limited schedule and the number of actual passes that are available, the rules for borrowing this pass are different from the other passes. The Edaville pass is restricted to Middleborough residents only and is limited to one use per family per month. The pass can be reserved in person or online at the Library's website. Each pass must be picked up on the day it is being used and must be returned by the time the Library opens on the following day. It cannot be used on Fridays as the Library is closed that day. Readers should note that the pass is good for the park and the traditional train but not the Polar Express.

For specific information regarding dates and hours of operation, it is best to visit the park's website.
