Annual Appeal for the Massachusetts Archaeological Society

As friends and members of the MAS, you know the many ways the Society reaches out to preserve archaeological sites and artifacts and to educate the public about the importance of such resources. But, did you know that the MAS is facing steeply rising costs of maintaining the century-old Robbins Museum building? Utilities, major systems repairs, and even the equipment used to protect the collections are a big part of the operating expenses.

Your gift to the MAS Annual Appeal will be used immediately to maintain and support the Society's repository and mission. Be sure to visit www.MassArchaeology.org to find out how to connect, give, and make an impact on archaeology in Massachusetts. We thank you for your support!

NoteAble Blend Concert

The Middleborough Public Library will be presenting a holiday concert on Sunday, December 7 at 2:00 pm. The concert will feature the NoteAble Blend Women's Barbershop Chorus. The chorus has entertained area audiences for a number of years. NoteAble Blend is an energetic, women's a-cappella barbershop chorus that shares a passion for singing, a support of friendship, a love for teaching and promoting the art of barbershop music, and a desire to contribute to the local artistic community through musical expression. The ladies will be in fine holiday spirit as they will have just performed at the Taunton Tree Lighting the day before.

This will be a great family event. All Library events are free and open to the public. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Middleborough Public Library.

Book Donations for Ex-Libris

With the holidays approaching, we know that many of our patrons will be doing some housecleaning. Please consider going through your bookshelves for good-looking books that can be added to the Friends of the Library's Ex-Libris bookstore. At this time, we are looking particularly for children's books that are in great condition and could make great Christmas or Hanukkah presents.

On Saturday, November 29, the store will be participating in Small Business Saturday with a special bag sale. New inventory is needed now.

Donations are accepted any time during normal Library hours with a few ground rules. We would love your new, pristine, recently published or released (no more than five years ago) items. Children's classics can have older publication dates.

We cannot accept videotapes, cassette tapes, moldy, mildewy or dirty items, or encyclopedias. A staff member will ask to see your items before you can leave them with us. (If you ask, we would be happy to go out to your car to look at them before you bring them into the building.) If we can't accept them, but they're in decent condition, we ask that you donate them to another charity.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this new procedure, and are grateful for your contributions to the Middleborough Public Library. All proceeds from the bookstore go to support the programs and services of the Library.

Speaking of holiday gifts, some lucky donor can take home this beautiful handmade Christmas quilt lovingly crafted by one of the Friends Board members. For every dollar donated between now and Small Business Saturday, you will receive a chance to win. For every $5, you get 6 chances.

Donations are accepted in the bookstore during their regular hours:

Tuesday 11 - 3, Thursday 5 - 7, Saturday 10 - 2 and Sunday 12:30 - 2:30.

The drawing will take place on November 29 just prior to the Library's 3:00 close. The winner will be notified by phone.

All Are Welcome Will Serve Thanksgiving Dinner

ALL ARE WELCOME COMMUNITY KITCHEN AND BAKERY, INC. (AAW), a non-profit community restaurant located at 60 Union Street, Middleboro, is pleased to announce the third annual “donate-as-able” Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 27 at 1PM.

"This Thanksgiving Dinner is for everyone!", said Karen Cook, Executive Director. "We don't want people to feel if they are 'taking away' anything from folks who are struggling. We plan every meal at All Are Welcome so that folks who are alone can enjoy the company of other guests, Thanksgiving is no exception, and we hope more people will join us this year. "

The Thanksgiving meal will include appetizers, a complete turkey dinner with the traditional sides, dessert and (non-alcoholic) beverages.

We have coordinated our efforts with the Council On Aging and have arranged transportation for those who are unable to get to the center of town. Folks who would like to attend and need a ride should call the COA at 508-946-2490 with your name, address, phone, number of people attending, and if wheelchair assistance is needed. Reservations for transportation are required and must be made by Tuesday, November 25, 2014.

For those who don't require transportation, reservations for this meal are strongly encouraged. Anyone interested in attending can call All Are Welcome at 508-443-0243 or email manager@allarewelcome.us. As with all of the meals served at AAW, those who are able are encouraged to donate what they can for their meal.

Thanksgiving dinner will be served at our regular location – 60 Union Street, Middleboro, MA 02346 at 1PM. Those who have never shared a meal at AAW are encouraged to join us for our weekly meals, Thursday lunch served from 11AM – 2PM and Saturday breakfast from 7:30AM – 11AM.

It is the mission at ALL ARE WELCOME COMMUNITY KITCHEN AND BAKERY, INC. to provide access to nutritious meals to all members of the community regardless of means. By encouraging those able to support themselves to assist in the support of others, ALL ARE WELCOME seeks to reduce food insecurity and build community, one meal at a time.
