Painting Workshop

Local artist Donna D'Amato will be offering a painted pinecone workshop at The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts next Saturday, May 6th at 9AM. 

Participants will create pinecone flowers that resemble live zinnias, daffodils, marigold, daisy, iris, jonquil and chrysanthemums for seasonal decor including wreats, baskets, vases and centerpieces. Students will be provided with sanitized pinecones, paint and grapevine wreaths. Participants should bring pruning shears or sturdy wire cutters to cut the pinecones.

Craft enthusiasts are invited to bring their own glue gun and paint brushes if desired. Fee for the workshop is $40 and coffee, water and light refreshments will be provided. The deadline for registration is Thursday and can be made by calling 508-946-1071.

Park Department Canoe Race is Saturday


This Saturday, April 29, the Middleborough Park Dept. and the Taunton River Watershed Alliance host the annual Park Dept. Nemasket River Canoe Race. Rain date is Saturday, May 6.

Come join the fur for an exciting canoe race, with free burgers and hot dogs with chips and drink at the end of the race for all registered participants. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 in each category.


The race starts at 11 a. m. at the Old Bridge Street bridge in Lakeville with a finish line at the Oliver Mill Park in Middleborough.

Pre-registration is $20 per boat. Sign up at the Masi Field House located at 26 Jackson St. in Middleborough Day of Race Registration is $30 per boat. Sign up on race day from 8:30 to 10:30 a. m. at Old Bridge Street starting area in Lakeville

In accordance with state laws, race rules require that each person wear a personal flotation device for safety. No more than two people per canoe, with extra paddle required. No alcohol allowed.

Greg Maichack's Pastel Paint Workshop Returns!


If you weren't able to attend Greg Maichack's pastel painting workshop in March, we're offering a second class at 6:00 p.m. on Wed., April 12. His newest workshop is titled, "Pastel Paint the $44-Million Flower." This fun pastel painting workshop is designed for everyone from beginners to experienced artists.
This program currently is full, but please sign up for the waiting list. Last month, everyone on the waiting list was able to attend as we had numerous cancellations.

Participants will experiment with hundreds of the artist's professional grade pastels, pastel pencils, and pastel paper. All materials will be provided, and everyone who attends will get to take home his/her artwork.

Maichack is an experienced professional at teaching pastel techniques, as recognized by the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), and hundreds of libraries and local cultural councils.

Deb Caletti Author Talk


Join us on Wed., April 26 at 6:30 p.m. to meet and speak (via Skype) with author Deb Caletti and hear about her new book for adults, What's Become of Her, and about her life as an author. She'll also answer questions from the audience.

The Skype call with Caletti will run from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Then everyone is invited to stay until 8:00 p.m.to join Ellie and Her Bookies for a discussion of Caletti's book, He's Gone.

Deb Caletti is an award-winning author of books for both young adults and adults, and a National Book Award finalist. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, and now lives with her family in Seattle.
